An impressive 54-7 win over Kapolei in the semifinals of the Open Division in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships has vaulted Kahuku into the top 20 in the nation in the latest USA Today Super 25 rankings.

The Red Raiders (11-1) jumped up three spots to No. 19 in the rankings released on Monday morning.

Only three teams in the entire country that have lost a game are ranked ahead of Kahuku, which suffered its only defeat at No. 1 Bishop Gorman, 35-7 in September.

The Gaels (12-0) have won six straight games by at least 49 points. Only No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas (25-24, 3OT) and No. 11 St. John Bosco (35-20) have played Gorman closer than Kahuku, which has won 24 straight games against in-state competition.

Kahuku’s average margin of victory is 46.2 points against teams from Hawaii, holding them to an average of 3.9 points per game while scoring 50.1.

The Raiders have scored at least 38 points in their last eight games against in-state foes.

In USA Today’s computer rankings, Kahuku is No. 31 and Saint Louis, the No. 2-ranked teams in Hawaii, is No. 176 heading into their rematch in the state final of the Open Division on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.

Kahuku remains listed just outside of the top 25 as a bubble team in the CBS MaxPreps/Xcellent Top 25 rankings released Monday as well.
