Teniya Alo is wrestling for Kahuku

Teniya Alo is wrestling for Kahuku this season, according to Red Raiders head coach Moke Galletes.

Alo, a junior, wrestled for ‘Iolani the past two seasons and won a state title two years ago. She is the sister of Teshya Alo, who won four state wrestling titles for Kamehameha and lost in the semifinals of the Olympic Trials in April.

Teniya Alo can become the third girl to win state titles for different schools, joining Shani Alvarado(2000 Mililani and 2002 Moanalua) and Quinn Nagatani (2011 Pacific Buddhist and 2012 Mililani).

According to Galletes, Teniya Alo won two matches on Saturday at a season-opening mini tournament at Kaiser.

Galletes found out in October that Alo would be wrestling for the Red Raiders.

“We’re definitely excited to have her on our team,” Galletes said Saturday. “To have a girl of her caliber in our wrestling room makes everyone in the room better.”

According to Galletes, Teniya Alo lives in the Hauula district and is a student at a charter school (partially online) called Hawaii Technology Academy. He also said that Alo has cleared all the paperwork necessary to wrestle for the Red Raiders.
