Tuitele, Vimahi, Tufono all top 100 recruits


There are already 10 current high school sophomores from Hawaii that have received Division I scholarship offers.

Even with the departure of Kapolei quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa to a high school in Alabama, the class of 2019 in Hawaii will be one of the higher rated classes every to come out of the islands.

Leading the way is Saint Louis defensive tackle Faatui Tuitele, who is one of three current sophomores from Hawaii to receive high praise from the recruiting service 247sports.com.

Tuitele, who is 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds, is listed as the No. 9 overall recruit in the country according to the Website.

He is considered the second-best defensive tackle prospect behind Louisiana’s Ishmael Sopsher and the No. 3 recruit out of the West region behind No. 1 overall prospect, DE Kayvon Thibodeaux of Los Angeles and quarterback JT Daniels from Mater Dei.

Tuitele’s offer sheet consists of the following schools: BYU, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, Ole Miss, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington.

Rivals.com and Scout.com have yet to release their 2019 recruiting rankings. Both have Tuitele pegged as a four-star recruit.

Not far behind is Kahuku OL Enokk Vimahi, who is rated as the No. 48 overall prospect in the same class.

Vimahi, listed at 6-5 and 270 pounds, has an offer sheet consisting of BYU, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nebraska, Oregon and USC.

He is listed as the No. 6 offensive tackle prospect.

Punahou linebacker Maninoa Tufono also cracks the top 100, checking in at No. 86 overall.

He is the third-ranked inside linebacker prospect and holds offers from Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon and Washington State.
