2020 QB Sol-Jay Maiava Takes Pac-12 Visit
Despite having three years of high school football remaining, Kahuku (Hawaii) quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava is already on the radar of college coaches from across the country and he recently visited a West Coast program...
Sol-Jay Maiava has been busy this offseason and that continued late last month when he made a stop by UCLA to check out a spring practice.
The class of 2020 quarterback from Kahuku, Hawaii, told Scout.com he enjoyed his time in Westwood and is excited to continue building a connection with the coaching staff.
"The visit was awesome," Maiava said. "The coaches told me they are really interested in me. Some of the coaches that are there now came over from Michigan. Coach Jimmie (Dougherty) and coach (Jedd) Fisch are great. Coach Jimmie was here in Hawaii when Michigan came down last year. Coach Fisch didn't make the trip, but he told me he remembered me and they're excited about me.
"I liked the atmosphere and the coaches. That was my second time on the campus, but my first time getting a tour. I went to a skills camp in seventh grade there and competed with the high school kids and that was a lot fun. It was nice to go back and actually get a tour. Their facilities are going to be nice and, just like USC, they have a lot of tradition there."
The Wolverines offered Maiava when Fisch and Dougherty were on that staff last year.
Maiava, who had a standout performance at the Pylon Elite 7on7 national tournament earlier this year, said he hopes to make a swing through the SEC in the coming months.
"I've just been training and then this summer most likely I'm going to check out Georgia and maybe Auburn and Florida. I also want to go to the Oregon camp, so I'm trying to figure out my schedule."
Maiava plans to compete at The Opening Regional in Oakland this coming weekend and said he would try to swing through Stanford to see the Cardinal up close.
