Leaving Leilehua - media and parting thoughts

It has been quite some time since I've been on Carleton E. Weimer field on game night. It was definitely a chicken skin experience as I had the privilege of witnessing a Kahuku High School varsity football game from the sidelines. Consequently, since I decided to finally put into action the passion I have for our high school and all it represents for our kids and our community . . . let's just say I will be present at more of its athletic contests and other extra-curricular activities. This game waged against the always scrappy Leilehua Mules will act as a launch point of sorts in bringing to you more original content and my personal perspective.

And we're off . . .

Pre-Game warm ups.

Sol-Jay off and running.

Sol-Jay and some of his protectors: # 57 Cire Loo, # 79 Siliva Toelupe, and # 31 Sekope Latu.

Samson & Samson were creating havoc all night long!

Both lines were engaged in hand to hand combat . . . literally!

With the help of the offensive line Enoch Nawahine gave notice that he can act as a central figure for the Kahuku offense.

If not for the various holding calls, whether they were legit or not, Enoch may have had at least 3 touchdowns and over 200 yards rushing.

But that's ok, we claimed a 24 to 0 victory.

What was encouraging was the fact that I saw a plan being followed. With a relatively young team, 27 juniors, 12 sophomores, and a freshman, the coaching staff got most of the team in for reps. It's good that the boys get rewarded for their hard work while at the same time getting immeasurable live game reps. The starters get valuable conditioning playing into the 4th quarter. Everyone playing bodes well for the development of the boys and longevity of the program. Sure it wasn't a definitive win but like I said I can see a method to the madness and i'm pretty sure by mid-season everything will start to settle and Kahuku will be primed for Bingham and a run to the state championship.

Now let's bring on Waianae!
