2020 QB Maiava Reacts To Oregon Offer
Kahuku, Hawaii class of 2020 quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava reacts to his latest scholarship offer from Oregon, which could ultimately be a big one in his recruitment...
For well over a year now, Sol-Jay Maiava has constantly heard the name Marcus Mariota. Given his gunslinging style of play, the sophomore has been pegged as the next electrifying quarterback out of the state of Hawaii.
Those comparisons returned Tuesday when the class of 2020 prospect from Kahuku added an offer from Mariota's alma mater, Oregon.
"I'm excited and very thankful," Maiava said. "An offer from Mariota's school is truly a blessing for me and my family. To go to his school and try to fill his shoes would be a great challenge no doubt, but it is also an honor to receive an offer.
"Of course I really like their facilities and I love the way they run their offense. I keep in touch with coach (Joe) Salave'a and I've heard they like my playmaking abilities and how I can keep plays alive with my feet."
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Maiava also holds offers from Fresno State, Hawaii, Michigan and Utah. He is considered one of the top quarterbacks out West in the 2020 class. Maiava camped with the Ducks this past summer.
As a sophomore this season, Maiava has completed 53 percent of his pass attempts for 1,144 yards and 10 touchdowns while also averaging over four yards per carry and tacking on four more scores through the ground.
