Parting thoughts - Polynesian Bowl 2018

My son and I were privileged to be able to get on the Aloha Stadium turf last Saturday for the Polynesian Bowl. In it's second year the Polynesian Bowl is becoming one of the premier post high school all-star games in the country. Sponsored by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame the game showcases high school seniors of Polynesian ancestry from around the country as well as some selected players not of Polynesian ancestry. As the host of this all-star game the State of Hawaii is afforded the majority of the selections. Fortunately, our beloved Red Raiders had 3 selected to participate: Samson Reed, Enoch Nawahine, and Fatu Atuaia.

The Polynesian Bowl is actually part of several events surrounding the enshrinement ceremonies for the current years' selections to the Polynesian Hall of Fame. Red Raider nation was fortunate enough to have one of their very own, Ma'ake Kemoeatu, inducted in last weekend's festivities.

It was a very classy atmosphere with living Polynesian football legends as well as several current NFL and college stand outs all over the place. And from what I saw, everyone was exuding the Aloha spirit. Even on the field it was tough, spirited yet respectful competition. It was a great way to spend an afternoon!

I hope I can be a part of it for many years to come.

Even my son Jamerus [below] got to get a photo with Ma'ake

Here we have 2 "Straight From The Bush" selectees: Noah Williams [above] and Jonah Kahawai-Welch [below]. Noah played center for Mililani and is the son of Robin [Kia] Williams, my class of 1990 classmate. Jonah played defensive end for Kamehameha-Kapalama and is the son of David Welch, class of 1987.
