New Notre Dame official visitor [ @marist_09 ] added for this weekend #StraightFromTheBush

There are a ton of talented recruits from the 2019, 2020 and 2021 classes headed to Notre Dame this weekend for the Florida State game on Saturday. Irish Illustrated has learned that there is a late addition to Notre Dame’s official visitor list and he is already en route to campus.

Per a source, Notre Dame will host Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou three-star athlete Marist Liufau on an official visit this weekend. The class of 2019 recruit hasn’t added an offer from the Fighting Irish yet, but that is expected to come his way later this weekend.

Despite being ranked and listed as a cornerback this cycle, Liafau is up to 6-2 and 200 pounds, which has the Notre Dame coaching staff recruiting him as a linebacker. Special teams coordinator Brian Polian has been spearheading this recruitment for a long time and will team up with defensive coordinator Clark Lea this weekend to try and leave Liufau feeling good about the Fighting Irish football program.

Regarding offers he does have, Liufau has picked up scholarships from Arizona, Boise State, Utah, Washington State, Oregon and most recently USC. Most assumed that this would be a done deal when the Trojans pulled the trigger, but with him heading to South Bend, that is far from a done deal. Despite limited spots left in this class, keep an eye on Notre Dame here. We’ll have more on that in time.

247Sports analyst Blair Angulo recently wrote about Liufau and had nothing but good things to say about the talented defensive player.

"He can play safety, nickle or even some outside linebacker given his cover skills. He is physicality in the box as a run stopper and has the length, size and fluidity to make things happen in space. All of that makes him one of the most intriguing prospects out West and certainly one of the more impressive defenders on the island in this recruiting cycle."

Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Liufau is the No. 167-ranked cornerback in the country and No. 13 prospect in Hawaii from the class of 2019. However, again, Notre Dame looks at him as a potential difference-maker at linebacker after watching his senior film.
