Punahou’s Marist Liufau headed to Notre Dame #StraightFromTheBush

Punahou defensive back Marist Liufau has committed to Notre Dame after visiting the school over the weekend.

Liufau, who holds 11 Division I scholarship offers, announced his decision on social media.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior ended his season with seven tackles and two sacks in a 45-21 loss to Saint Louis in the ILH Open Division championship game.

Liufau also held offers from Arizona, Boise State, Hawaii, Oregon, San Diego State, UNLV, USC, Utah, Utah State and Washington State.

He will join a Notre Dame team that has two players from Hawaii. Safety Alohi Gilman (Kahuku ’15) is in his first season with the Fighting Irish as a redshirt junior after transferring from Navy. Defensive tackle Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa (Kapolei ’17) is a sophomore who has missed most of the season with an injury.

Liufau is the fourth Buffanblu senior to commit to a Division I school, joining LB Maninoa Tufono(USC), OL Duke Clemens (UCLA) and K Tim Horn (Washington).
