Polynesian Bowl will be a 'sentimental moment' for Kahuku's Vimahi
The Polynesian Bowl hosts many of the best high school football players in the country before they head off to college. The big game is Saturday. Friday was the final day of a week of practice.
The 100 kids marked the last morning of refresher reps with a Haka competition between Team Mauka and Team Makai. The Mauka players in the red jerseys came out on top. One of those winning players was Kahuku's offensive lineman Enokk Vimahi.
Vimahi is a 6'4 263 pound Red Raider senior. He's is a four star recruit, but has yet to commit to where he will play next year.
Many offers have come in for Vimahi, including USC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Ohio State. He was going to verbally commit at the Polynesian Bowl but recently delayed that decision.
Saturday's game will be extra special for him. He'll be playing with Kahuku teammate Miki Ah You. Both players had their senior seasons cut short due to injury.
"Just getting to finish where (Aloha Stadium) I thought I would have my last game is a very sentimental moment for me," expressed Vimahi after Friday's seven-on-seven drill. "We've been growing up together. Me, him, Nalu, Sili, even Ethan. Backyard football, you know, you start young at the park right after school. And going from there to, potentially, Saturday's..."
The second ranked recruit in Hawaii's class of 2019 according to 247 Sports, Vimahi is taking everything into consideration before deciding on a college.
"Just a program that'll make me the best person on and off the field," he said. "I'm trying to be the best person I can. Our old coach said if you're not getting better you're getting worse. It stays the same."
The Polynesian Bowl is Saturday night at 7:00pm at Aloha Stadium.
