Mission Viejo (Calif.) should have a loaded defensive line next fall and Keanu Tanuvasa is a player we expect to have a big season.

Tanuvasa is a talented interior defensive lineman and is coming off a solid junior season. He routinely took on double teams and still finished the year with 30 tackles, six for loss and five quarterback sacks.

At 6-4, 275 pounds, Tanuvasa is a big, strong kid who plays with a great motor. He’s relentless in how he pursues the football and shows enough athleticism to make plays outside of his area.

He plays with advanced technique, has strong hands and is able to manhandle an opposing guard or center when singled up. He does a nice job getting off blocks, shows good lateral mobility and has the potential to be one of the top defensive players in the state this fall.

We saw Tanuvasa last week at the Diablos College Showcase and he impressed. His recruitment is starting to take off and he’s well past the double digit scholarship offer mark.

“The schools I’m talking with the most from right now are Oregon State and Boise State,” Tanuvasa said. “I have already visited both schools and really liked it a lot there. With Oregon State, I loved the family unity. The players were great with me and everyone made me feel at home.

“Boise State was an amazing place. The school is really impressive, they have a winning program and they have a winning record every year. I love the blue turf and I have a great relationship with the coaches. They’re probably recruiting me harder than anyone right now too and reach out to me almost every day.”

Tanuvasa has also unofficially visited Arizona this off-season.

“I went with a group of friends and it was a lot of fun out there,” Tanuvasa said. “I talked with coach Iona (Uiagalelei), the DL coach and we have a good relationship. We were able to watch a spring practice and I liked the intensity. They have a nice campus and a good coaching staff and I enjoyed being there.

“As for when I’ll make a decision, I’m really not sure right now. I want to take all five of my official visits first but I don’t have any dates yet. Boise State will for sure get a visit. Hawaii, Arizona and Oregon State are others I could visit and I could see myself making a decision sometime in December.”
