Kahuku’s Teniya Alo beat Angela Peralta of Radford 5-4 in a battle of state champions and former training partners on Saturday at Mililani.

Alo, who won a state title as a freshman for Iolani before falling in the semifinals last year, beat Peralta 5-4 in the mini tournament. Peralta had the edge in the early going despite two stalling calls but lost it on a late takedown.

The match took place at Peralta’s 145-pound class. Alo wrestled at 127 at Officials a month ago and did not compete at the Pa’ani Challenge. She weighed in at 132.1 pounds for Saturday’s match.

Peralta is No. 1 in Hawaii Prep World’s pound-for-pound rankings while Alo is No. 3 behind Lahainaluna’s Iverly Navarro.

Here is the break down in scoring from someone who was matside:

Peralta: 2 (takedown) Alo: 2 (reversal) Peralta: 1 (escape) Alo: 2 (takedown)

Each girl got a point on penalties.
