(2-12-17) Kahuku's (Hawaii) Samuta Avea (6'6 Senior) is this week's SSN National Boys Basketball Player of the Week.

Avea led the Red Raiders to the school's first ever Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I State Title beating Punahou 70-55. The 6'6 Senior had 20 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots in the tile game and was named the tournament's MVP. In the quarter-final game win over Kalaheo he had 15 points and 7 rebounds and in the OT semi-final win over 'Iolani he had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

After the championship game Avea told Hawaii News Now:

"I love my team. I'm speechless right now. This is crazy how good our team played and how good we mesh together, and it's all thanks to Coach Brandyn."

Avea will attend the University of Hawaii next year. His four-year high school career has been quite an adventure, he played two seasons (Freshman and Sophomore) at Kahuku before moving to Utah for his junior season to hopefully get added exposure. While living with his Aunt he helped Bingham (Utah) to a Utah 5A Championship. Signing with Hawaii before his Senior season he decided to move back home and play his final year back home at Kahuku.
