Hawaii's No. 1 Defensive End Samson Reed Set For Busy Summer, Eyes Upcoming Visits

A half dozen schools have extended verbal scholarship offers to Samson Reed but the talented defensive end is on the hunt for more.
The three-star prospect from Kahuku, Hawaii, visited UCLA last month and told Scout.com he's planning to return this summer to compete at the Bruins' camp in hopes of adding them to his list.
"When I was at UCLA, I got a chance to talk a bit to coach Angus (McClure) and we talked about playing both inside and as a true end," Reed said. "They took us around and had us talk to the players, so that was very good. The campus is beautiful and obviously it has great academics, so it was great to see everything.
"This summer I plan to get back out there for the Big Man camp."
California has been expressing new interest, Reed said, and he's set to be in the area this weekend for The Opening Regional in Oakland. That figures to be just the beginning of what could be a busy summer for the No. 1-rated defensive end in Hawaii.
"I'm also planning to visit Georgia and maybe Virginia," Reed said. "My father is out in Atlanta so I'm planning to go visit him, take a road trip and try to visit as many schools as we can out there. We might also get out to the West Coast to take trips to Pullman to see Washington and Berkeley, hopefully."
The Cougars have offered, along with BYU, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada and UNLV, and it's a program Reed said he intends to take a closer look at.
"I love how their defensive line is run," Reed said. "Their defensive style of getting after the ball with speed is also something I like about them. I've talked to them about both inside and outside since I have that versatility. I want to see if it's comfortable out there in that area and see how I fit in."
Reed, who has committed to play in the 2018 Polynesian Bowl next January, was credited with 25 tackles, including 5 1/2 sacks, as a junior last fall.
