Kahuku running back Enoch Nawahine, the leading Division I rusher on Oahu this season, has been invited to the 2018 Polynesian Bowl.
The 6-foot, 185-pound senior is averaging 7.8 yards on each of his 107 carries, tallying 839 yards and 11 touchdowns in eight games played. He’s also second on the team with 168 receiving yards on nine receptions with a touchdown.
Nawahine transferred to Kahuku for his senior season from Punahou, where he rushed for a team-high 415 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior. He is the second Red Raider invited to the annual all-star game for high school seniors, joining defensive end Samson Reed, who has committed to Virginia.
Nawahine has four 100-yard rushing games this season despite carrying more than 16 times in a game only once. He started the year with a career-high 163 rushing yards and a touchdown on 30 carries in a win over Leilehua. Since then, he has carried the ball more than 10 times in a game only four times and averaged more than 10 yards a carry with 118 total rushing yards and two touchdowns in a 42-6 win over Campbell in the OIA semifinals two weeks ago.
The Polynesian Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2018, at Aloha Stadium.
Nawahine is the 25th player from Hawaii selected to the game. Five more selections will be announced over the next two weeks, beginning with the next one tonight on Cover2: Hawaii High School Football Weekly at 9:30 p.m. on KHON2.
