Three-star DE Reed Recaps Virginia Visit

Samson Reed announced his commitment to Virginia in the summer and, following another cross-country trip last weekend, is completely locked in with the Cavaliers heading into the early signing period next month.

The three-star defensive end from Kahuku, Hawaii, took his official visit to Charlottesville and, although his future team fell to rival Virginia Tech in a close battle, he told 247Sports the experience was not tarnished.

"I had a lot of fun learning about the program," Reed said. "It was great hanging out with the players and my future teammates. They were all really welcoming.

"The meetings were very informational about how they run the program and how they see me to fitting into the defensive scheme."

Reed, the No. 3-rated prospect in Hawaii for the 2018 class according to the 247Sports rankings, committed to the Cavaliers back in late June and saw his high school teammate, three-star offensive tackle Micah Mariteragi, do the same last week.

"He told me he was going to commit before he announced it, so I was excited," Reed said. "He is a great player and plays with heart."

With one final step remaining, the 6-foot-3, 252-pound Reed plans to sign with Virginia next month.

"I'm done with the whole recruiting process and now I'm just getting ready for college," he said.

Reed was credited with 52 total tackles, including 22 1/2 for a loss, in 11 games as a senior this season.
