Kahuku has had some top of the line boys basketball talent in the last decade

In 2008 Jray Galea'i made the Honolulu Star-Bulletin's Fab 15 @ # 6 while joined by a #StraightFromTheBush Punahou player named Manti Te'o @ # 13.

In 2009 Jray made 1st team for the Honolulu Advertiser while securing the # 5 spot in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin's Fab 15.

Nehoa Akina secured a 2nd team nod for the Advertiser while being selected # 8 in the Star Bulletin's Fab 15.

2010 saw Keanu Akina ascending to 1st team all-state for the Advertiser and up to # 4 in the Star Bulletin's Fab 15.

2010 Also saw a "New Zealander" join Nehoa on the Fab 15 @ # 14. Did Shairone Thompson grow up in New Zealand? I'm pretty sure he grew up in Htown :) !

In 2011 Shairone was all alone on the inaugural Fab 15 of the newly minted Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

It was a historic year for Big Red when we landed 3 players on the Fab 15 of the only publication with island wide distribution - The Honolulu Star-Advertiser. @ # 6 and # 7 was Kawehena Johnson and Mason Kuali'i-Moe with Mekeli Fiso @ # 12, respectively,

In 2013 Kawehena Johnson was able to make it on the Fab 15 @ # 13.

After missing a year in 2014 we were lucky in 2015 to be able to land 2 real New Zealand imports on the Fab 15 with Denham Brooke @ # 5 and Hyrum Harris @ # 9.

In 2016 Hirkley Latu was our lone

rep on the Fab 15 coming in @ # 9.

Then of course we know what happened in 2017! History was repeated when we matched 2012's team by placing 3 players on the Fab 15. Those players were Jessiya Villa who was rated the # 1 player in the state while Samuta Avea was right behind him @ # 2. Not too far behind them was Daniel Fotu @ # 4. However, their greatest and historic accomplishment was that they provided the leadership to lead the Kahuku Red Raiders to their 1st State Championship in boys basketball.

2018 didn't quite turn out the way we envisioned it but we still made it back to the State Championship game. In the course of that run Galen "Tolu" Smith got to showcase his full arsenal of skills while allowing a young Kahuku team to mature in preparation for another run at it again next year! When next year comes around Big Red will have some great leadership in Marcus Damuni, Ethan Erickson, Robbie Sauvao, Lokana Enos and even more developing youngsters!
