Maiava listed on St. John’s Max Preps football roster
Sol-Jay Maiava is listed on the MaxPreps version of the St. John's football roster in Washington D.C. Jamm Aquino / Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Quarterback Sol Jay Maiava is listed on the MaxPreps website football roster of St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.
MaxPreps is a popular website, with pages, results and rosters for most teams in various sports across the nation. Roster information to the website is usually provided directly from the schools.
An effort to connect with Maiava and his parents for confirmation of the move late last week was unsuccessful.
Last season as a sophomore, Maiava and the Red Raiders went to the Hawaii Open Division state championship game — a 31-28 loss to Saint Louis. Maiava led Kahuku to a late score for a 28-24 lead, but his team was unable to hold on in the last minute.
In two seasons for the Red Raiders, Maiava threw for 2,380 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for 675 yards and nine TDs.
He currently holds offers from six FBS schools — Fresno State, Hawaii, Michigan, Oregon, Utah, Virginia. That offer from the Wolverines came from coach Jim Harbaugh when Maiava was in eighth grade.
St. John’s captured the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship last season with a 30-7 victory over Gonzaga. That game was played at Maryland Stadium in College Park, Md.
The Cadets finished 9-2 and both losses were to national powers — 35-31 to De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) and 21-17 to St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.).
St. John’s also finished as the top-ranked team in the state (D.C. is considered part of Maryland for the rankings) and No. 42 nationally.
There is a note on Maiava’s athlete page on MaxPreps, reading: “Sol-Jay has been added to the St. John’s football roster (this week).”
This season, the Cadets play against teams from Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Missouri. On Sept. 15, they play IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), which finished No. 2 nationally a year ago.
