Oklahoma freshman utility Jocelyn Alo was named the NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Tuesday, according to a press release.
Alo currently leads the nation in home runs (28) and is two home runs shy of the Oklahoma single-season record. Alo was also named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, ranking first in the conference in home runs (9), walks (17), RBIs (25) and runs scored (18).
Alo is the second freshman in four years to receive the award, with senior left-handed pitcher Paige Parker receiving the award in 2015. Despite comparisons to all-time leading home-run hitter Lauren Chamberlain (95), Alo is creating her own legacy in college softball, and this award is just one of the many she is expected to receive in her career.
