OGDEN — Weber State football secured a commitment Friday afternoon to add more depth and experience to its defensive backfield. Snow College safety John Farley-Ofahengaue tweeted his commitment to WSU one day after posting pictures to social media of his official visit to campus. He'll join the program in the summer and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot defensive back chose Weber State over interest from Tulsa, Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, North Dakota and Dixie State, he said. Recruited primarily by new receivers coach Jared Ursua, Farley-Ofahengaue said the environment at Weber State made his visit "one of the best experiences of my life." "All the coaches genuinely bonded with each other and really take care of the players, and the players welcomed me as well," the Hawaii native said by phone Friday evening. "It felt like a family-oriented space and that's one thing I'm big about. I want to feel welcome, I want to feel like I want to be there." Farley-Ofahengaue totaled 38 tackles, including one for loss, and grabbed two interceptions playing free and strong safety for Snow College in 2018, according to stats posted by the NJCAA. His highlight video shows he returned of those interceptions 80 yards for a touchdown. He joins two incoming defensive transfers for WSU's 2019 signing class. One of those is linebacker and fellow Snow teammate Sherwin Lavaka. The other is Boise State safety transfer Desmond Williams. Weber State football adds speed, experience with 17 football signees on 2019 Signing Day Those players stand to help Weber State replace seven starters from a historically great defense, four of which were defensive backs. Farley-Ofahengaue's addition would bring WSU's 2019 class up to 18 players. Seven of those are incoming freshmen expected to serve missions.
