It was a bit of a wait, but a month after visiting Clemson, the Tigers made an official scholarship offer to Hauula's Tausili Akana.
The June barnstorming tour of Tausili Akana netted a bounty of football scholarship offers.
One of them wasn’t official until Saturday. Clemson offered a scholarship to Akana a month after the 6-foot-4, 225-pound outside linebacker visited the school.
“I really enjoyed my visit with Clemson football. I did a camp and an unofficial visit. The staff was amazing, the facilities were top notch and the program is one of the best in the country,” Akana said. “They love what I do on the football field and they envision themselves doing different defenses around me.”
Akana spent time with assistant coaches and head coach Dabo Swinney.
“The more I do research on the coaching staff, facilities, academics and football program, my interest has increased,” he said. “I enjoyed the big slide in the football facilities.”

Like the follow-up on social media and forums after his offer from Oklahoma, the excitement from Clemson fans is matched by few programs.
“Clemson is one of those schools that is just different. Since visiting the campus, the Clemson media has been in touch with me. Now that I posted the offer, fans, media and alumni have been keeping me busy on social media. Clemson loves their football. It’s been a crazy couple days.”
At the time he visited Clemson, he had abruptly cancelled a trip to Notre Dame to make time for the Tigers.
“Definitely a great decision to change up my travel schedule back in June. It worked out great,” Akana said.
Akana is currently enrolled at Skyridge in Utah, hoping the DOE and OIA make an official announcement that high school football season is a go. The Hauula resident was enrolled at Kahuku last spring.
As a sophomore, he played football at Wasatch (Utah) in the fall of 2020. His freshman year was at Kamehameha.
